Dr. CHEN Ruoping, Chief Neurosurgeon of Children's Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine, is currently a Pediatric Neurosurgeon (multi-disciplinary practitioner) of Jiahui Healthcare. He graduated from the Department of Pediatrics of Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine in 1990, and received his MD in Surgery from SJUMS in 2001, and was a visiting scholar at the State University of New York of Medicine in 2006.
He has been involved in neurosurgery and pediatric neurosurgery for 34 years, specialising in the diagnosis and treatment of various pediatric neurosurgical disorders, especially difficult and complex diseases, using minimally invasive surgical techniques. He is good at diagnosing and treating various types of tumours: tumours in the functional region of cerebral hemispheres, medulloblastoma, ventricular meningioma, triventricular tumour, pineal tumour, craniopharyngioma, brainstem tumour, skull base tumour, spinal column and spinal cord tumour; and various types of neurological congenital anomalies: hydrocephalus, spinal bulge, tethered cord syndrome, subcerebellar hernia, premature closure of cranial suture, and various types of cranio-mandibular anomalies. He is good at treating all kinds of cerebral and spinal vascular malformations with neuro-interventional techniques; he is good at treating children's epilepsy and other functional diseases with stereotactic surgery techniques; he is good at intracranial pressure monitoring, intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring techniques and children's neurological critical illnesses.
Academic Achievements:
He has presided over and been the sub-topic leader of a total of 9 scientific research projects at all levels, including a major project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. He has published 20 papers in internationally renowned medical journals, including Nature and Science. He focuses on: clinical applicability of biomaterials, targeted therapy of childhood neurological tumours, intracranial pressure monitoring technology and childhood neurocritical care, intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring, metabolomics and proteomics of tumours and infectious diseases, and mechanistic studies of brain development.
