Shanghai, October 20, 2026 — Jiahui International Hospital celebrated its ninth anniversary under the theme “Nine Years of Care, Connecting the World through Health.” Jiahui's team and healthcare ecosystem partners came together to reflect on nine years of bringing international healthcare practices to Shanghai and connecting Chinese medical innovations with patients worldwide. The celebration also highlighted new developments in medical talent development, international collaboration, the integration of sports and healthcare, and community engagement.
Dr. Allen WU, President of Shanghai Jiahui International Hospital, said, “In the next nine years, Jiahui will continue to uphold our core values, with Care at the forefront. Rooted in Shanghai, we will connect Chinese medical innovations with patients around the world, promote medical exchange between China and other countries, and become a trusted health partner for the people we serve.”
From Bringing International Healthcare to Shanghai to Building a Locally Integrated Healthcare Network
Nine years ago, Jiahui started from the ground up with a vision to bring international healthcare practices to Shanghai. During its early development, the hospital received support from international institutions, including Massachusetts General Hospital. As more physicians from China's leading tertiary hospitals joined Jiahui, it gradually evolved from a hospital founded on an international team into a comprehensive healthcare network built on international standards and supported by a multicultural team.
Over the past year, Jiahui's efforts to integrate local healthcare practices with global innovation have gained industry recognition. Jiahui received the “2026 Excellence Partner in Sustainable Healthcare Innovation” award, jointly presented by Yicai, Jianwen Consulting, and the Medical Services Committee of the Shanghai Modern Service Industry Federation. It was the only comprehensive healthcare service provider selected for the award.
Dr. John K. HSIANG, Chairman of Jiahui Health Executive Committee, emphasized that international healthcare involves more than assembling an international team. It requires continuous practice, innovation, and progress within China's healthcare environment, with a deep understanding of local patient needs. Over the past nine years, Jiahui has continued to explore the integration of international healthcare standards with local medical practices, bringing international service philosophies, clinical management expertise, and multidisciplinary care models into the Chinese healthcare system.
Developing Medical Talent to Strengthen the Foundation of International Healthcare
Jiahui's long-established Full-Time General Practitioner Training Program and Hospital Physician Training Program received the “Excellence in Talent Development and Succession Planning” and “Excellence in Talent Strategy and Planning” awards, respectively, from DXY (Dingxiangyuan). Over the years, these programs have nurtured medical professionals with an international perspective and a commitment to patient-centered care. Some graduates have since become key clinical professionals in their respective specialties.
To engage the next generation of aspiring medical professionals, Jiahui launched the inaugural Jiahui Health × NYU Shanghai Pre-Medical Volunteer Program this year. Through volunteer opportunities and immersive clinical experiences, the program offers pre-medical students insights into medical careers and real-world healthcare settings. The Jiahui Health Scholars Program has also entered its seventh year, providing high school students interested in medicine and life sciences with exposure to an international healthcare environment. In addition, Jiahui officially launched its Global Management Trainee Program to cultivate the next generation of management professionals for the healthcare ecosystem.
On the international stage, Jiahui was the only invited Chinese healthcare institution to share China's international healthcare practices at the 2026 WTO Public Forum in Geneva. As growing attention is being paid to international patients traveling to China to access innovative medicines and treatment options, Jiahui has emerged as a tangible example of China's inbound medical tourism development. Its initiatives have attracted coverage from media outlets including Caijing Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, and South Korea's Channel A television network.
Bringing this vision to life has been made possible through the support of national policies, Shanghai's open and inclusive environment, and the continued development of China's innovative medical resources. Equally important have been the collective efforts of Jiahui's team and the long-standing engagement of patients, community partners, and healthcare ecosystem partners.
Bringing Healthcare into the Community and Building a More Caring Health Ecosystem
Community engagement and social responsibility were among the key themes of Jiahui's ninth anniversary celebration.
Yuwell Medical, through the Shanghai Health and Nature Foundation, donated 20 medical vital signs monitors to the clinical departments of Shanghai Jiahui International Hospital for initial patient assessments. These devices will support frontline clinical teams in providing standardized and efficient vital signs assessments during the early stages of patient care.
Ms. Chunhua Shi, a patient representative who has followed Jiahui's development over the years, was named a “Jiahui Health Ambassador” in recognition of her ongoing constructive feedback. Ms. Shi has consistently offered practical suggestions on patient experience and care processes, helping Jiahui improve its healthcare services from the patient's perspective.
Since June 2026, Didi (Wu Zhongxuan), a young autistic volunteer from ELG, has been volunteering at the coffee bar on the second floor of Jiahui International Hospital every weekday from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. His responsibilities include taking orders, preparing coffee, and heating bread for customers. During the celebration, Jiahui presented Didi with the title of “Jiahui Community Inclusion Ambassador.” The hospital also reaffirmed its commitment to creating accessible, sustainable opportunities for community participation and inclusion that respond to the real developmental needs of people with diverse abilities.
Combining Sportsmanship with Medical Expertise to Build a Healthier City
The integration of sports and healthcare was another highlight of Jiahui's ninth anniversary. Following its partnership with Shanghai Shenhua Football Club, Jiahui International Hospital has officially become the official medical partner of the Shanghai Sharks Basketball Club.
During the celebration, the club presented Jiahui with a commemorative piece of flooring from its CBA championship, symbolizing the dedication and achievements of athletes on the court while recognizing Jiahui's medical expertise. Looking ahead, the two organizations will collaborate on health management for athletes and physically active individuals, sports injury prevention and treatment, and professional medical support. The partnership aims to extend healthcare services into more sporting environments and promote the integration of sportsmanship into healthier urban lifestyles.
Leading with Care into the Next Nine Years
In his ninth anniversary message, Dr. Allen Wu reflected, “Nine years of exploration have given us a clear understanding of the kind of hospital Jiahui aspires to be. Healthcare is not only about treating diseases and extending lives. It is also about caring for every patient, seeing and understanding them as individuals, and connecting with their everyday lives. Only then can we truly become their health partner.”
Jiahui remains committed to its three core values: Care, Quality, and Impact, with Care always coming first. Jiahui's vision is to become one of the best hospitals in China. Achieving this vision requires not only advanced facilities and medical expertise, but also a clear and unwavering philosophy of care.
Looking toward the next nine years, Dr. John K. HSIANG stated, “Shanghai is our home, and the world is our stage.”
Jiahui will continue to connect Chinese medical innovation with patients around the world, enabling more people to benefit from medical advances. It will strengthen connections between the Chinese and international medical communities to promote global medical exchange and progress. Together with international healthcare partners, Jiahui will explore shared platforms for international healthcare, share China's experiences, and embrace emerging technologies. The organization will also continue developing the next generation of medical and management professionals and working alongside diverse communities to become a trusted health partner for more people.
Over the past nine years, Jiahui has progressed from establishing its presence in Shanghai to becoming an integral part of the city. It has also been a journey of turning the concept of international healthcare into a tangible patient experience. From a single hospital to a healthcare ecosystem connecting patients, physicians, medical innovation, families, communities, and global healthcare resources, Jiahui has continued to explore one fundamental question: How should a truly future-oriented hospital grow alongside a city, a country, and the changing times?
The anniversary theme, “Nine Years of Care, Connecting the World through Health,” not only reflects Jiahui's nine-year journey but also expresses its commitment to the future. Rooted in Shanghai, driven by Chinese innovation, and focused on patients worldwide, Jiahui will continue to connect medicine with people through genuine care, respond to healthcare needs with professional expertise, and advance medical progress through open collaboration. In doing so, Jiahui aims to further establish international healthcare practices in China while bringing Chinese healthcare experiences to the global stage to be seen, understood, and shared.
