    • The ancient Greek doctor Hippocrates was the first to record gout. Napoleon and Louis XIV were both patients with gout, and it was known as the "disease of emperors" in history.     • Gout is a crystal-related arthropathy caused by the deposition of monosodium urate (MSU) in the joints, which is directly related to hyperuricemia caused by purine metabolism disorders and/or reduced uric acid excretion.
