    • The Jiahui Sleep Medicine Clinic was established more than 2 years ago, and strictly follows the guidelines of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) for individualized diagnosis and treatment of patients with a variety of sleep disorders. The Jiahui Sleep Medicine Clinic has a comprehensive, multidisciplinary clinical team, which includes sleep physicians and technicians, neurologists, otolaryngologists, dentists, pulmonologists, psychiatrists, psychologists, pediatricians, etc.

The Jiahui Sleep Medicine Clinic has comfortable and spacious single-person sleep monitoring rooms that are fully equipped and managed by our medical team, bringing patients a home-like experience. The purpose of sleep medicine is to help patients with sleep disorders to once again experience quality, restful sleep.

    • Inability to fall asleep: Insomnia is often associated with poor lifestyle habits, anxiety, depression, and environmental factors. Common symptoms include:

      • Difficulty falling asleep
      • Unable to sleep at night, sensitivity to light and sound
      • Persistent nightmares
      • Waking up early, or waking up and being unable to get back to sleep
      • Not feeling well-rested after a night’s sleep
      • Fatigue and difficulty concentrating during the day
      • Being anxious and quick to anger

Poor sleep quality: Snoring, suffocation, poor breathing, hypoxia, physical activity, speech or walking, or even impulsive behavior during sleep, leading to decreased sleep quality.

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA): Snoring, dyspnea, and suffocation are caused by obesity or upper airway obstruction. Pediatric patients often suffer from dyspnea and hypoxia during sleep due to adenoid hypertrophy and rhinitis.

Parasomnia or restless legs syndrome: Speech, shocks, physical activity, etc. during sleep, or difficulty falling asleep due to uncontrollable activity of the lower limbs.

Too much sleep: In addition to being unable to fall asleep and poor sleep quality, some patients with sleep disorders have narcolepsy. They cannot wake up normally due to too much sleep, and they cannot work normally due to sleepiness during the day.

    • Process

      1.First visit
During your first appointment at the sleep medicine clinic, a physician will conduct a detailed consultation and evaluation

      2.Sleep monitoring
The Sleep Medicine Service at Jiahui International Hospital's has multiple polysomnography monitoring devices, which can perform overnight sleep monitoring , and are staffed by sleep technicians and nurses. Polysomnography equipment can provide multiple, simultaneous lead monitoring, including EEG, ECG, EMG, EOG, nasal airflow, chest and abdominal breathing effort, oxygen saturation, heart rate, etc. It is suitable for patients of different ages, including infants and children. The monitoring data is analyzed by sleep physicians and technicians, and strict diagnosis is performed according to AASM diagnostic criteria to determine the patient's sleep issues.

In addition to the above-mentioned polysomnography, which needs to be performed in the hospital, the Jiahui Sleep Medicine Clinic also provides portable polysomnography II and III devices that can be used at home, as well as wristband blood oxygen monitoring equipment to facilitate home monitoring of patients.

While performing sleep monitoring, sleep medicine physicians can also perform non-invasive airway management to provide pressure titration and respiratory support to obtain the good treatment for patients with sleep apnea and hypopnea.

      Treatment

Treatment of sleep disorders: divided into drug therapy and non - drug therapy.

Drug therapy: Different drugs will be chosen based on the patient’s particular sleep disorder. There are a variety of drugs available for insomnia therapy, such as GABA receptor modulators and melatonin receptor agonists. At the same time, many patients with mood disorders such as anxiety and depression also suffer from sleep disorders, and psychological therapy is needed. At the same time, those with parasomnias or physical symptoms will need to be given appropriate drug control after diagnosis.

Non-drug treatment: Sleep education and guidance, stimulation control therapy, sleep restriction therapy, and cognitive behavior therapy for patients with physiological insomnia. For patients with sleep apnea syndrome, treatments include:
      a. Changes in body position and weight loss
      b. Continuous positive pressure ventilation therapy c. Oral appliance therapy
      d. Nasal cavity surgery
      e. Pharyngeal soft tissue surgery (modified palatopharyngoplasty, soft palate anterior displacement)
      f. Oral surgery, etc.
