On the afternoon of March 25, 2021, the "Jiahui Health Orthopedic Day Surgery Academic Salon" was successfully held at Jiahui International Hospital (JIH). The salon jointly explored the future development and practice of minimally invasive, individualized orthopedic day surgery and artificial joint surgery.
What is day surgery?Day surgery (also known as outpatient surgery, ambulatory surgery, and same-day surgery) is surgery that does not require an overnight hospital stay. Patients are scheduled to complete preoperative examinations, anesthesia assessment, and appointment time for surgery before admission. They then complete the surgery on the same day as admission and are discharged within 24 hours after surgery. Patients with special cases who need to be discharged from the hospital due to their medical conditions should be hospitalized for no more than 48 hours at the longest. Day surgery can help reduce overall medical costs, while maintaining the same level of safety as inpatient surgery, and reducing major examinations and prescriptions.
A platform for academic exchange
The event was attended by many influential orthopedic surgeons and Jiahui leaders, including Mr. Ge Feng, CEO of Jiahui Health, Dr. John Hsiang, Chief Medical Officer of Jiahui Health and Clinical President of Jiahui International Hospital, Liu Zhengrong, CEO of Allin MD, and a variety of Jiahui physicians. The event was presided over by Professor Allen Wu, Chief of Orthopedics and Sports Medicine at Jiahui International Hospital.
Dr. Young Ahn, Chief of Anesthesiology, Chief of the Intensive Care Unit, and Deputy Chief Medical Officer at JIH, took the lead in expressing his own opinions on the perioperative safety of day surgery. Dr. Ahn’s focus on creating a "patient safety culture" was well received by the other attendees.
The last topic of this academic exchange activity, "The Practice of Artificial Joint Day Surgery", was a panel discussion chaired by Professor Allen Wu. The participants all affirmed the development direction of day surgery and shared their experiences, leading to spirited and positive intellectual exchange between the experts.
Just the beginning
This event, hosted by Jiahui International Hospital MSK and Allin MD, promoted educational activities for primary-level orthopedic doctors in Shanghai with an international perspective, and also provided a platform for centralized exchange for orthopedic surgeons in Shanghai. The event was heavily attended by doctors from top three hospitals in Shanghai, with all participants benefiting from the exchange of their accumulated clinical experience, as well as discussion of new information and research results on orthopedic day surgery.
This academic exchange activity represents a strong starting point, and received praise from all parties involved. In the future, Jiahui will continue to expand this professional platform, promote academic exchanges, and contribute to the vigorous development of orthopedics in Shanghai.
